Simple Present Tense

Singular

RUMUS:

Singular Subject + Vs/es/ies

CONTOH :

The dog chases the cat

Plural

RUMUS :

Plural Subject + Verb1

CONTOH :

the dogs chase the cat

EACH AND EVERY 

Untuk kalimat yang diawali “ Each / Every “ diikuti dengan “ Singular Noun “ lalu “ Singular Verb “.

# Each ; Every     >      Singular noun       >       Singular Verb

ex :

Each of the rowers takes her turn at rowing

Each of these hot dogs is juicy.

Everybody knows Mr. Jones.

PREPOSITIONAL PHRASE

Prepositional Phrase, atau frasa preposisi adalah frasa yang terdiri dari preposisi dan objek preposisi (object of the preposition).

 Objek preposisi dalam frasa preposisi dapat berupa noun, pronoun, atau noun phrases.

Subyek dengan frase preposisional, kata kerja atau kalimat tunggal / jamak harus setuju dengan subjek kalimat, bukan dengan objek preposisi.

Contoh frasa preposisi:

- on the internet- in the room

- by the ocean

- near the window

- over the cabinet

- with us

- in your ear

- under your hat

- below sea level

Dalam kalimat terdiri Subject + Prepositional Phrase Verb dari kalimat tersebut lihat dari subjectnya

Example :

a box of nails is under the stairs(singular)

Eating carrots is good for your eyes (plural)

GERUND

Gerund phrases adalah frase yang terdiri dari gerund ditambah dengan objek dan/atau modifier. Seperti halnya gerund, gerund phrase juga berperan sebagai nomina dalam kalimat.

Dalam membuat kalimatnya  bila Subject Gerund (Verb ing) maka verbnya harus singular.  

 Gerund sebagai subjek, kata kerja harus tunggal.

example :

The gorilla was eating a banana with one hand ( singular)

playing ball in the room is not fun (plural)

Some of, A lot of, Half of, None of, Most of  

Pada suatu kalimat jika singular noun maka verbnya singular. Begitu juga bila plural noun maka verbnya plural.

Contoh :

Some of car in the show room is luxury.

None of this money is mine.

Each of, One of, Every one of pada suatu kalimat diikuti plural noun, dan verb harus singular.

Contoh : 

 Each of people is not same.

One of my friends is beautiful. 

 The number of plural = Jumlah -----> Singular Verb

A number of plural = Sejumlah -----> Plural Verb

Contoh :

The number of plants in each plot was 25.

A number of people are dancing on the stage.

Ket: the subject (s) merupakan singular noun, maka verbnya (is) merupakan singular verb.

The professor and the student (agree) on that point

Ket: karena merupakan singular noun, maka verb yang digunakan singular

Almost every professors and student at the university (approves)

Ket: karena merupakan singular noun, maka verb yang digunakan singular. Approves merupakan singular dan approve merupakan plural.

Why (were) yoko and alex late for the meeting?

Ket : subjek plural, verb plural

Some of fruit in this bowl (are) rotten

Ket : some of + singular noun, verb singular

Most of movies (are) funny

Ket : some of + plural noun, verb plural

Half of this money (is) yours

Ket : subjek singular, verb singular

A lot of clothing in this store (is) on sale this week

Ket : a lot of + subject gerund, verb singular

The number of employees in my company (is) approximately ten thousand

Ket : the number + plural noun, verb singular

Why (was, were) some of the students excused from the examination

Ket : some of + plural noun, verb plural
